Barbados identity Buried in History

The Elder's Last Word. The old man increased gradually, cleaning sand from his trousers. He turned towards the little wooden home as though looking at an old pal.
" One day," he said, "individuals gon' forget what this house really indicate. They gon' believe it was just pretty wood and brilliant paint. But you-- you compose the story now. Make certain they keep in mind.".
He stopped briefly, letting the sea-grape leaves rustle in the stillness.
" This home is we. All the shifting, all the surviving, all the dreams we pack up and carry from one location to the next. When you understand that, you comprehend Barbados.".
And with that, he left-- slow, constant, calm-- like a male who brought his own home inside him.
This story belongs to the much deeper cultural journey checked out in Rogues in Paradise and the RoguesCulture Identity Series.
